Obituary for Antonio Jaimes Galvan

1932 - 2018

The angels called, and Antonio Jaimes Galvan listened! On March 12, 2018, Tony went to be with the Lord. Born on April 13, 1932 in Los Angeles, California. At the young age of 12 he started picking and eating potatoes with his father and brothers. He left Santa Maria High School in the 12th grade to join the United States Army, to provide for his family and follow his older brother’s footsteps. Upon his return home, he married Juanita Ferrel on September 5th, 1954. Over the next 15 years they had 5 children.

Tony found a passion for boxing in high school that followed him throughout his military career. He was a “Golden Glove” winner, and also held Lightweight and Middleweight titles. Tony often worked 2-3 jobs until he started his career with the City of Santa Maria. During his 39-years with the City, he started underground in the sewers and retired as the “Street Superintendent” in 1995. Tony continued his military career in the U. S. Army National Guard, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, which he held as a high honor serving with great distinction.

More than anything, he loved to spend time with his family. He enjoyed camping, taking care of his grandchildren, dancing with his wife, going out to eat, going on vacations, and cooking breakfast for his loved ones. Having menudo every Saturday was a tradition until his doctor told him his cholesterol was too high. Then Saturday breakfast moved to his favorite restaurants.

Antonio is survived by his wife of 63 years Juanita Galvan. He is also survived by his children Esperanza Hernandez (Ruben), Antonio Jr. Galvan, Daniel Galvan, Christina Martinez (Matthew) and Alex Ferrel and Suzy Folk who he loved liked his own children. Grandchildren: Matthew H. (Dawn), Aubrey (David), Natalie (Frank), Amanda (Skyler), Raeleen (Daniel), Marissa, Christopher, Sara and Matthew M. As well as 11 Great Grandchildren.
