Obituary for Betty Lue Brookshire

Betty Lue Brookshire, who was given love and a family by her adoptive parents, and would go on to multiply that gift by providing the same to three generations of her family and numerous orphans in San Quintín,Mexico, died on March 1 at Marian Regional Medical Center. She was 85.

Betty was born in Springfield, MO on Dec. 7, 1932 and adopted as an infant by Ollie and Galen
Clutter. In 1951, she married Timothy L. Brookshire, a year after graduating from Willard High School in Willard, MO. They began married life humbly and endured separation while Tim was deployed during the Korean War. Then came a pair of farms in Missouri, a move to Southern
California, starting a business, picking up and relocating that business to Santa Maria and a retirement filled with service to others. She also found time to travel with Tim at her side. She explored Europe, the Middle East and Latin America but was fondest
of her Western deserts. She enjoyed camping under their endless stars and exploring remote locations from the seat of a dirt bike.

Through all the change and adventure, Betty remained profoundly devoted to her family and her faith in Jesus Christ. Her influence helped her family remain caring and tight-knit even as their ranks outgrew dining table after dining table. As they grew, she never stopped cherishing
time spent with each member of her family. Her wide smile and musical “hello” was sure to greet them anytime they knocked on her door. She always had time, was ready to listen, invested in their lives, a source of encouragement, proud of their accomplishments
and prayed for each one of them every day.

Her prayers were only one part of her active faith. She sought God’s guidance daily and heeded Christ’s call to minister to those in need. In 1986, Tim and Betty began serving through Mobile Missionary Assistance Program, building churches across the country for more than a decade.
In 1997, they headed to San Quintín, Mexico and began work on a orphanage in partnership with Foundation for His Ministry. They supported several of the orphanage’s children in their education through college and maintained meaningful relationships with them after they graduated. When she stopped traveling, Betty continued to invest in Christian community as a member of Pacific Christian Center where she attended church and a weekly women’s Bible study.

She is survived by her husband Timothy L. Brookshire, son Steve Brookshire and his wife Catherine, daughter Pam Golike and her husband Dale, eight grandchildren and a great-grandson.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 9, 2018 at Calvary Chapel Santa Maria, 2620 Santa Maria Way. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to Foundation for His Ministry, PO Box 74000, San Clemente, CA 92673-0134.
