Obituary for Farrell Lea Quimby Kisio

Farrell Lea Quimby Kisio, 64, of Orcutt, CA passed from those who loved her on March 7, 2018. Summing up a life into a few words in never easy; for our Farrell was a quiet woman with an enormous presence. A child of the 50’s and 60’s, she exuded everything from a spirit of tempered revolution to the care and appreciation and love of family and community, ever mindful of the larger picture always developing around her. Her sage advice and comfort often sought by many. Our family has lost its north but will forever hold in our hearts the precious memories of a woman gifted with wisdom, tenacity, grit, and warmth.
Farrell, a mother figure for her siblings was the tooth fairy, cake baker and funeral director for pet lizards. She is survived sisters, Kate Elizabeth Quimby (Rich), Kerry Quimby Zenich (Henry), and brother Greg Patrick Quimby (Rosie).

After Graduating from Desert High in 1971, Farrell raised her daughter, Terra, on her own, while attending night school and working at a hot grill late nights on Vandenberg Air Force Base. In later years, Terra gave her mother her two lovely Grandchildren; Bryce and Caed. Farrell encouraged their individuality, spirit, and spark (all while claiming it certainly came from her).
She worked over thirty-five years proudly serving the public of Santa Barbara County, in the field of Social Services. She was a fervent believer in social change, proudly displaying ERA NOW on the living room wall and walking political precincts while pushing a stroller.

Her adored siblings married and brought more joy to her by her nieces and nephews. To them, she was their “Aunt Fo Fo.” Dearly loved by Daniel, Mathew, Peter, Beverley, Leslee, and Chandler; an Aunt, a friend, and a confidant has been lost. Each of them unique to her and she spoiled them throughout the years whenever she could. Never short on time or love of her nieces and nephews, sharing her home often, her mantel always proudly covered with their photos.
Farrell, famous for her home cooking, beautiful garden, Christmas cookies, game mastery and much more; Farrell’s empty seat leaves a void with her fellow game mates, online sleuths, and fellow bookworms.

Farrell lost many before her passing; Dad Bill, Mom Beverley, Grandma Bonfield, and let’s not forget her cherished pets; Mackie, Bridget, Kitty, Nemo, Shasta, and Bailey. She is now with those she has so deeply longed to see and is at peace.

Farrell loved her secrets and doing the unexpected. So, should you spy or have noticed wildflowers among roadsides in unexpected places, you may have spotted her handiwork. On her way to work every early spring, she would cast seeds across the wet ground and watch the flowers bloom with a sly grin each summer morning (her secret, until now).

Her tempered rebellious nature makes us smile in remembrance, for it lives on in all who knew and loved her.
Please join us as we gather to hold a memorial celebration of Farrell’s (Fo Fo’s) life at Dudley Hoffman Mortuary Friday March 23, 2018 at 10 am with a reception to follow at her home.
