Obituary for Leo Mark Evans Jr.

Leo Mark Evans Jr., 87, of Santa Maria, California, passed away on September 28, 2017. Leo was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on July 17, 1930. He moved with his family to Pasadena, California, when he was eleven years old. Because there was no senior high school in the area, Leo attended high school at Pasadena City College.
After graduating from high school, Leo enrolled at Occidental College and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. When he returned, he attended the University of Southern California, graduating with a degree in business. In 1971, he obtained a J.D. from the University of La Verne. Leo was self-employed and had a varied career as a real estate broker, lawyer, and contractor.
Leo loved to tell stories about his adventures hitchhiking to Alaska as a young man, which he accompanied by singing “North to Alaska.” Leo enjoyed sports, especially water skiing, swimming, tennis, and snow skiing. He was also fond of shelties, and in his later years, his favorite form of exercise was walking his dog Buddy around the block each evening.
Leo is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margaret Evans. He is also survived by his daughter, Cherie Evans, of San Francisco, California, and two sisters, Karen Taylor and family of Pasadena, California, and Suzanne Hinds and family of Bakersfield, California.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Leo Evans, and his brother, John Evans.
A memorial celebration of Leo’s life will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Orcutt Presbyterian Church.
