Obituary for Mary Ostini

Mary Louise Porath Ostini (nee Pittman), 66, of Santa Maria, CA passed away on July 14, 2018 at Marian Hospital. Mary was born in Los Angeles, CA on February 21, 1952 to Irving Donald Pittman and Mary Lou Fuller. The family moved to Twain Harte, CA when Mary was 12 years old. She was in the first graduating class of Summerville High School in 1969, where she was in the school band and won the Rotary Club’s trophy for Individual Scholastic Excellence.
Mary worked as a waitress in Columbia, CA where she met and married Mike Porath in 1970. Shortly after they were stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base where their son Christopher was born in 1972. Mary was a stay at home Mom until Chris started school, then went to work for Tandem Foods in Santa Maria. Tandem eventually became Dean Foods, which took Mary to Watsonville, CA.
On Dec. 24, 1997 she married the love of her life, Mike Ostini at his brother’s home in Buellton, CA adding two more sons to her family. After 20 years in the food industry, in 1998 she began working for the County of Santa Barbara in the Social Services Division, making many close friends.
Mary loved hosting Mike’s sports official buddies, who were always like family to her. She always looked forward to entertaining family and friends for holidays. Anyone that knew Mary knew she loved penguins, amassing quite a collection of anything “penguin.” Watching her sons and nephews compete in wrestling was one of her favorite things to do. Mary loved her grandbabies, even making a trip to Disney World with granddaughter Ellery just a few weeks prior to being hospitalized.
Mary is survived by her husband Mike; sons Christopher Porath, Joe Ostini(Nicole) and Chris Ostini; mother Mary Pittman; grandchildren Ellery Mae Ostini and Justin Levi Ostini; brother Leonard Pittman(Renee)of Bend, OR ; sisters Donna Wedgeworth(Sam) of Arlington, TX and Cheryl Pittman of Sonora, CA; nieces and nephews Jennifer Collins(Tracy), Cassandra Pittman, Nicholas Smith, new great nephew Leonard Thomas Pittman and so many more on Mike’s side of the family.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 23 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held Tuesday, July 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Santa Maria. A reception will immediately follow at the Hitching Post in Casmalia.
The family requests donations to the Marian Medical Foundation or a favorite charity, in memory of Mary.
