Obituary for Trevis Moss

On Friday, January 11, Trevis Moss passed away in his home in Orcutt, CA and went to his other home in Heaven. He blessed us here for 92 years.
Born May 5, 1926 in Dayton, TN, he grew up during the Great Depression, mostly in Fulton, KY. At age 17 he joined the Army Air Corp and later the Air Force. He earned a BS in agriculture, a BA in Liberal Studies and a MA in Education, but mostly he let life and various jobs teach him.
The military gave him the opportunity to further training and education, as a tail gunner in fighter planes, a teacher in History classes, a transistor/vacuum tube technician, and a logistics manager. He served during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1975 after 30 years of service in the Air Force. He retired again in the 90’s after a long stint with USBI/United Technologies as logistics manager. In his life he walked dirt roads and railroad tracks, cranked a model T and helped pack and transport parts for moon landings as well as space shuttle journeys.
He was known for rambling stories, off-key church hymns and “MacGyvering” contraptions; he reportedly fixed a problem with an exorbitantly expensive button to an earlier NASA gadget by rigging it with a lid he pulled off a spray paint can. He loved to tinker in his home, which was open to myriads of relatives from as close as Lompoc to far away Japan.
Trevis was preceded in death by his parents, Wilford and Zoma Lee Moss; his older siblings Albert Moss and Louise Pugh and his son Brad Emerson. He is survived by Chie Moss, his wife through better or worse, in sickness and in health for 51 years. He will also be lovingly remembered by daughters, Judy Williams, Cristy Cole, Kinuyo Henderson and Trena Bailey; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces gathered from just about everywhere.
Family, friends and those touched by the life of Ret. MSGT Trevis Moss are invited to a service celebrating his life. It will be Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Church of Christ on Foster Road in Orcutt at 12:00 pm. Family will greet friends from 11 until service. Reception following.
