Obituary for Beatrice "Betty" Ellen Carranza

Betty passed away on January 1, 2018 at the age of 87, at the Arroyo Grande Care Center. She battled the disease of Dementia and Alzheimers for 11 years.
She was born in Grove, Oklahoma on November 16, 1930. The youngest of 12 children. Born to Samuel and Dorinda Alberty. Went to grammer school near where they lived. She came to Sisquoc, California at the age of 15. Living with her sisters and brother at different times. Graduated from Santa Maria High School.
While living in Sisquoc she met her future husband Philip Carranza. They were married July 1, 1950. They had 3 children, Ralph, Terry and Debra. Her dear husband Philip, passed away way too soon, February 20, 1969. They were only married 19 years.
Betty was a loving, caring, stay at home Mom. She was a Den Mother when her sons were Cub Scouts. Enjoyed sewing, crocheting and working in the yard. She sewed a lot for herself and her daughter. She even sewed her daughter’s wedding dress.
As we got older she went to work in Santa Maria at Sally’s Dress Shop, Holsers Department Store, which later became Scott’s when it moved to the Mall. After Scotts closed, she worked at Hallmark, then May Company when they opened, Robinson-May and later Macys. She retired in 2001. She enjoyed her years being a sales lady.
She and the kids moved to Santa Maria in 1972. She always kept busy with work, going for her daily 2 miles walks and working in the yard. She would even mow and edge her lawn every week.
Years later she met Everett who became a dear friend of hers and the family. They loved to travel and went many places.
Betty was diagnosed with Dementia around 2006. As the years went by, and the disease became worse, she needed help. She had 2 wonderful care givers, Olive and Sylvia. Debbie could not have taken care of her Mother without them. They became part of the family. Gave Mom the best of care.
The last 6 months of Moms life, she was at the Arroyo Grande Care Center. She received the best care from the wonderful Aids and Nurses. Thank you all.
Betty is survived by her Brother Dennis Alberty, daughter Debra Boner, grandson Luke “Ashlee” Carranza and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Philip Carranza, sons Ralph Carranza, Terry Carranza, 6 Sisters and 4 Brothers.
Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 19, 2018, 11:00 in the Chapel of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary.
