Donna Lue Baker

Donna Lue Baker, 87, of Santa Maria, California, died after a short illness She is survived by husband Milton A. Baker; sons Leonard Baker and Mark Baker; daughters Lisa Baker and Mishell Rose; grandchildren Paul Baker; Brian Baker; Bridgette Baker; Shiloh Croy-Baker; Sarah Griffith; Martin Baker; Shelly Ann Baker; Lee Parkhurst; Jessica Husselstein; Coral Baker; Nicholas Rose and Nathaniel Rose; great-grandchildren Cierra, Seth, and Elijah Husselstein; Isadora Morris; Jack Holm; and Violet Baker, along with Donna’s sister, Patricia Goodman. She was preceded in death by sister Joan Lee.Visitation from 1 to 5 pm February 25, 2018 at the Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary. Graveside service is scheduled for 11 am February 26, 2018.

A devoted wife and mother, Donna met challenges with enthusiasm and without complaint. She gave generously of her time, from volunteer work at her children’s schools and the church altar guild, to creating costumes for her great grandchildren. She taught Sunday school class, and worked as a preschool director. Donna and Milton enjoyed travelling, and did volunteer work in Ukraine, Bangladesh, and Venezuela.

Donna enjoyed sewing, creating beautiful wedding gowns, quilts, and garments for family, friends, and those in need. Friendships that grew from sewing classes at Hancock College were dear to her. Donna kept a lovely home for her family, using her decorating acumen to make it beautiful and welcoming.

She met challenges with grace, wit, and enthusiasm, whether learning to use a cell phone or nursing a sick family member. Donna is remembered with love by all who knew her, but most of all by her adoring husband, who is still amazed by the lovely girl who fell in love with a handsome country boy.

Family and friends may reflect on Donna’s life with these words from Proverbs, chapter thirty-one:
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”
