Obituary for Barbara Ellen Johnston

Barbara Ellen Johnston
Barbara was born in Santa Maria on September 30, 1928. She passed away peacefully at Villa Maria Health Care Center on March 10, 2018, at the age of 89, after months of declining health. She could trace her roots back to the Pioneer Ruiz family in the late 1700s. She attended St. Mary’s Elementary School, and graduated from Santa Maria High School with the class of 1947. She obtained a Bachelors degree from California Lutheran University.
She had a Beauty Shop in her home for many years and worked later for the National Guard in San Luis Obispo in Payroll. She was PTA President at Robert Bruce School, a Cub scout Leader for her sons, and active with the St. Joseph High School Boosters club for her daughter.
She loved to travel making trips to Europe, Costa Rica and Mexico. She loved to read and could always be found with a good book. She was a great cook and loved to bake.
She was preceded in death by her parents Wilburn (Bill) and Millie Fouts, also by her brother Earl (Brian) Fouts and son Brian Johnston.
She is survived by one brother, Russell Fouts, two children, George and Mary Johnston, and three grandchildren, Jennie Johnston, Laura Sullivan and Karen Todd and two great grandchildren Madison and Logan Sullivan.
Her final instructions were that her body be cremated and her ashes be placed with those of her son Brian and buried in her fathers grave. There will be no memorial services.
