Obituary for Michael "Mickey" Gutierrez

Michael “Mickey” Gutierrez, was born on September 11, 1955 at 6:30 am at the Old Sisters Hospital off College drive in Santa Maria, California. He died at the age of 63 on April 14, 2018. Mickey lived in Orcutt, California, being an Orcutteer all his life. He attended Joe Nightingale Elementary, Alice Shaw Middle School, Lakeview Junior High School, St. Joseph High School, and Ernest Righetti High School. He earned his G.E.D. at Santa Barbara City College and graduated in 2000 from Santa Maria Joint Union High School District Adult Diploma Community Education Center. He loved all his uncles and aunts on the Gutierrez side and Martinez side, and all his cousins, but most of all he was proud to be a Gutierrez. Mickey loved living in San Diego, Los Angeles, and the Bay area in California, often going to the stadium to see the Charger’s, Padre’s, Ram’s, Dodger’s, Giant’s, 49er’s, and was a Raider’s fan. Most of all he was a Charger’s fan. Mickey wanted to say to all his veteran friends and the Veteran Affairs, “Semper FI.” Also a big thank you to his Dad and Mom who stuck with him when he was down and out, happy or sad, they showed him love all the time. His Dad named him Mickey because he liked the baseball player Mickey Mantle that had played for the New York Yankees. During Mickey’s youth, he played baseball and basketball. He also loved watching football games with his dad on weekends, while being an umpire at little league games. He played little league, pony league, and on the high school team. He was the All-Star Champ at the YMCA while also playing volleyball, eventually coaching soccer. Mickey enjoyed an active lifestyle staying in shape and working out with weights. Mickey loved to go out hunting and sleep under the stars. He would tell jokes over drinks with friends, was always working on muscle cars, and learned how to fly a Sand Piper Airplane. While serving in the Marine Corps in 1974-1983 Mickey was stationed at Mare Island Navy Base, (Vieques, Caribbean Islands) he got the “key” to the city of Viejo California. Mickey was also in the National Guard, stationed in Santa Maria, California. “Thanks to everyone who was in my life. I always called them my friends.”
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at 9:00 am at St Louis de Montfort Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Santa Maria Cemetery with full military honors.
