Obituary for Madeline Diani Bianchi

On Tuesday, April 10, 2018, our beloved Aunt Madeline Diani Bianchi left us for heavenly places, joining her parents, Lorenzo and Mary Dolinda Diani, her husband Woodrow W. Bianchi and her brother A.J. Diani as well as her great-great nephew Ryan Teixeira, who preceded her in death. She was born on July 21, 1924 in Soledad, California and moved to the Santa Maria Valley at the age of two where her father ran the Union Sugar Dairy in Betteravia. Madeline attended a one-room schoolhouse in Betteravia before attending El Camino Junior High and Santa Maria High School. She graduated with the class of 1942 -1/2.

In 1943 Madeline went to work for Union Sugar Company, beginning a forty-three year career that covered every facet of the company agriculture, from a junior typist and steno clerk to management, by the time she retired in 1986. Madeline and valley native, Woodrow W. Bianchi, were married in 1949 and though they never had children of their own, they were considered another set of parents by her brothers five children: Cecilia Diani Teixeira (Allan), Robert Diani, Susan Diani Ward (Don), James Diani (Teresa) and Michael Diani (Marty). Their children and grandchildren and all their friends knew and loved “Auntie”. Her first and last thoughts and prayers each day were for this family she loved so much.

Auntie remained active in several community organizations most of her life and was still an avid gardener, a love of which she passed on to younger generations. Almost every child in the multigenerational family received one of her cherished oil paintings as a gift at one time or another. Her cooking and baking was legendary, she was always preparing a meal for someone “in need”, to the delight of everyone blessed enough to be the needy one at any given time! When it came to holiday potlucks, everyone knew they wanted some of her homemade pasta...Auntie wouldn’t go anywhere without taking something!

Her sister-in-law Margaret Diani Paden as well as many Bianchi nieces and nephews and numerous relatives in Switzerland also survive Madeline. She left behind long time friends whom she spoke with daily, as well her loving caregivers Nena, Lolita and whom we are forever grateful!

In Lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to:

PO Box 1712
Pismo Beach, CA 93448-1712
A non-profit organization created by her great-great nephew to provide for victory trips for young adults who have suffered from catastrophic illnesses and do not qualify for other organizations. Ryan greeted Auntie upon her arrival in heaven.

Visitation will be Monday, May 7, 2018 at 5:PM followed by the recitation of the rosary at 6:PM in the chapel of Dudley Hoffman Mortuary. Funeral mass will be at 10:30AM Tuesday, May 8 at St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church in Orcutt.
