Obituary for Darryl Nash Rojas

Darryl Nash ( Dee, Bubba) Rojas , 80, of Santa Maria, CA passed away on July 16 , 2018. Darryl was born in Santa Maria, CA, on May 14, 1938 to Jayne and Francis Rojas, and grew up in Guadalupe, CA. He attended local elementary schools and graduated from Santa Maria High School with the class of 1956.
After graduation, Darryl joined the U.S. Navy, and served on the U.S.S. Currituck, from 1959 to 1963. After honorably returning from serving his country, he began working for the gas company in Santa Maria. During this time, he met and married the first love of his life, Mary Jane Karamatic. They had one daughter before divorcing in 1969. In 1976, he moved briefly, to Chicago, IL, where he worked as a boiler mechanic and developed a love for fishing for pike. Upon retuning to Santa Maria in 1978, he began what would become a lifelong career in plumbing, working first for Evan’s Plumbing, and then For Lanini’s . He also met the 2nd love of his life, Laurie Twyford and they were married in 1979. They also had a daughter before divorcing in 1991. He retired as a journeyman plumber in 2004 after more than 25 years. Although he was divorced, both Mary and Laurie would continue to hold a very special place in Darryl’s life, and all 3 remained close friends up until his death. Darryl believed family was family, no matter what. It was not unusual to find him out to dinner with both of his ex-wives, his ex- in-laws and children, and he enjoyed the puzzled looks he would sometimes get when introducing his most unconventional family.
Darryl had many interests during his lifetime. He enjoyed fishing, camping, dancing, go cart racing, roller derby, roller skating, walking, watching the drag races, riding his motorcycle, and car clubs. He could be found, almost every Father’s Day weekend in Pismo at the annual car show, spending hours wandering among the cars on display and admiring their beauty
Above all else, Darryl loved his family. For him, family wasn’t just the group of people he was born into, but also the countless friends he accumulated along the way. Darryl was well known by many, he never met a stranger, and was quick to start up a conversation and would get to know people with ease. He could often be found at the counter of one of his favorite coffee shops, discussing politics, cars, or telling a joke, or walking around town, finding treasures on the way, which he enjoyed collecting for some future project. If he called you friend, you were family in his eyes and in his heart. He was kind, loving, generous and loyal. He was one of a kind and he will be forever missed by those of us who loved him.
Darryl leaves behind his mother, Jayne Roth, of Santa Maria, CA, and special friends Mary Karamatic and Laurie Rojas. Daughters Sanci Carazo (Fred) of Bakersfield, CA, Danele Howell Williamson of Del Mar, CA, and Cealane Rojas (Ezra Paco) of Santa Maria, CA and son Darren Rojas of Salinas, CA. Grandchildren Dustin Rojas, Tanner, Alex and Amelia Carazo (Crosby Martin), Jordan Williamson (Nikki) and Krysten Williamson, Amanda McCann, Becca Rojas, and Aubree Koenen (Daniel). Great grandchildren Saylor Carazo, Everly Martin, and Ethan and Gavin Koenen. He is also survived by sisters Jackie Deparini (Vincent) Santa Maria, Heather Reece (Steve) Santa Maria, Karen Milo, Santa Maria, Lu- Ann Lannon , Boise, ID, and Jodi Harris of Bremerton, WA . Also, brothers Maurice Cespedes, Hanford, CA and Eddie Rojas of Dawsonville, GA. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and countless life long friends.

Darryl was preceded in death by his father, Francis Rojas, and brothers, Mike Rojas and Doug Rojas.
