Obituary for Tyrone Monroe Leekins

Retired Senior Master Sergeant Tyrone Monroe Leekins, 55 of Santa Maria died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on August 20th after a lengthy illness. Tyrone was born at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington on May 17, 1963.

Tyrone attended La Mesa Elementary School, Vandenberg Jr. High, Cabrillo High School and graduated from Righetti High School. He also received his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice at Allan Hancock College.

Immediately after high school Tyrone began a career in the Air Force then later enlisting in the Army. He served in Oklahoma, Illinois, Texas, Panama, Germany and Italy. He subsequently retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in the Air Force National Guard, 146th Airlift Unit.

Tyrone also retired from the State Department of Corrections California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo as a Correctional Sergeant. He also participated in the Color Guard as well as a Range Instructor.

He is survived by his parents William and Louise Leekins, Sisters Marchell and Camille Leekins, Niece Jasmine Leekins all from North Carolina. Children Tyrone Leekins Jr., of Santa Maria, Brandon and Bryan Leekins of Nipomo, Mother of Brandon and Bryan, Cathy Leekins of Nipomo and special friend Heidi Sagisi of Santa Maria.

Funeral arrangements are being provided by Dudley Hoffman Mortuary. Services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Santa Maria on Thursday, August 30th 2018 at 10am with a viewing for friends and family at 9:30. Burial to follow at the Santa Maria Cemetery.
