Obituary for Robert Martin Baker

Born February 25, 1922. Passed to God's heaven
Saturday September 30, 2017

Bob Baker was born February 25, 1922 in Santa Maia, the son of
Raymond Carl Baker and Marie Redwine Baker. He attended local
schools from kindergarten through high school graduationg with the class
of 1940. While in high school he excelled in playing the violin in
the high school orchestra as well as playing on the basketball and
track and fields teams.

Following high school he attended and graduated from Santa Maria
Junior College (now Allan HancockCollege). He enlisted in the
US Navy and served on a destroyer escort sailing protection for
convoys across the Atlantic ocean.

Upon returning home Bob enrolled at USC in the fall of 1946. He began
working also for the Santa Barbara County Fair. He also worked in managing
the Sacramento County Fair along with the California State Fair in Sacramento.
While living there he played violin in the Sacramento Symphony.

1951 saw him called from his naval reserve unit into active duty on the
carrier USS Bonhomme Richard.

Bob married Eileen Kline in 1955 and started working in Europe for
the US International Trade Fairs. They had some very interesting
experiences during that time.

Following those experiences he returned to Santa Maria managing
the Santa Brabara County Fair for several successful years.

His wife Eileen passed away in 2000 and Bob continued to live in their
home at "the ranch". The past several years became difficult for him and
he moved into Merrill Gardens until his passing on Saturday morning
September 30, 2017. Bob had a full and productive life with many good
friends.

Bob was a Master Mason for over 60 years and was a member of
Hesperian Lodge 264 in Santa Maria.

Survivors include cousin Richard Andrews of San Luis Obispo, cousin
Colleen Merendino of San Jose.

Nieces Denise Parrott of San Jose, Terri Ford (Tim) also of San Jose,
Nephew Christopher Buckalew (Tracy) of Santa Maria who was of great assistance to Bob
these past difficult months.. Also Richard's daughter Elizabeth Tracy (Christopher),
and their children Grant, McKenna, Walker and Reagan of Farmington Utah.

His service will be private for family and a few dear friends.
