Obituary for Robert Paul Merten Sr.

Robert Paul Merten Sr. 78 of Orcutt passed away peacefully at home Sunday February 18, 2018
Robert (Bob) was born November 25, 1939 to Peter James Merten and Viola “Susie” (Meinte) Merten
In Fairbury, Nebraska.

Bob grew up in Grand Island, Nebraska with his parents and three sisters. After graduating high school, he joined the US Navy and served on the USS Hancock and the USS Midway air craft carriers. While being stationed at Moffit Field in California, he met the love of his life of 57 years Marthalee (Lee) Carpenter, and were married November 27, 1960. Bob and Lee settled in Fremont California where they raised their three children and were members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

Bob was a skilled electrician and worked on many special projects including being one of the electrical superintendents of the Slick Six Missile site launch pad at Vandenburg Air Force Base. While running his own company Courtesy Electric he made a remarkable impression on many of his young employees. When Bob and his beautiful wife Lee retired to Arnold, CA. he started designing and building custom homes which he loved.

Bob’s greatest love was for his wife & family. The heart of giant as he always gave to his church, charitable donation and anyone he saw in need. While in Arnold he was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Sonora CA, and Sequoia Woods Country Club where he enjoyed his passion of golf and spending time with many cherished friends.

Survivors include his wife Lee, son Robert P & Robin Merten Jr., daughter Janet & Mike Snow, son James & Mary Merten, His Seven Grandsons Joseph & Crystal Snow, Robert P & Whitney Merten III,
Curtis & Brianna Snow, Steven Merten, Kenneth Merten, Zachary Merten and Nicholas Merten, five great grandsons, Christian, Corbin and Lincoln Snow, Alexander and Leonardo Merten, his sisters Pamala & Randy Vang, Gail Hahn, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, sister Judith Krager & Nephew Michael Hahn.
